Mangalyaan has sent some amazing pictures from Mars, taken with its Mars Colour Camera. And ISRO released them right on time – just before Independence Day. One look at these, and we are already waiting for more
The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also known Mangalyaan has been orbiting the Mars since almost a year. India’s first step into the interplanetary space, MOM was launched on November 5, 2013 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). In the very first attempt, it entered the Martian orbit on September 24, 2014, with the mission of observing the physical features of Mars and studying its atmosphere.
Just a day before Independence Day, ISRO released some amazing pictures which have been recently sent by Mangalyaan.
These are three-dimensional images of the Valles Marineris, which is the largest system of canyons in the solar system, and is located on the equator of Mars.
The pictures were taken by MOM on July 19th, 2015 with its Mars Colour Camera, from a height of 1857 km above the surface of the planet.
Thank you for the beautiful gift, Mangalyaan. We are eagerly waiting for more.
